● Love Soluble has opened a group home treatment center called the Manie Daniels Center (MDC), which is named after the founder’s late friend and former cell partner, Manie Daniels. Manie has been inspirational to the founder and Love Soluble’s mission during his life and also as a result of his death. The Manie Daniels Center is an 8-bed facility located between the Kingston and Ottawa area where they deliver a comprehensive model for addictions and recidivism treatment in a residential, communal living setting. The program lasts anywhere from 3 to 12 months, based on the complexity of each case and the client’s individual needs for treatment. The program consists of five main components. The program is completely unique in the sense that it offers many components of a variety of proven programs that exist exclusively and operate independently. Love Soluble combines these many parts collectively into one hybrid model for treatment tailored to fit the needs of this otherwise overlooked yet substantial group in this marginalized sector.
● The first component of the program involves a screening process, followed by an interview, and completed with a signed contract of accountability. During this process, Love Soluble communicates with social workers and addictions counselors employed through OPS who are employed inside the provincial detention centers that house presentenced inmates, a majority of whom would be addicted. Love Soluble first seeks to find candidates who meet certain criteria and display the benchmark behaviors and attitudes of an individual who is in the contemplative state of change. Following the candidate’s application to our program, a trained Love Soluble staff meets with the applicant, following the interview process and once accepted, the candidate will be asked to sign an agreement that outlines the MDC program and an assurance that the applicant agrees to voluntarily participate in all programming outlined in the agreement. This agreement includes the candidate’s agreement to partake in a 12 Step fellowship outside of the hours of all regularly scheduled programming. This signed agreement could be brought to court and made part of the candidate’s bail conditions, should the court choose to do so and the understanding that should they not be met, bail could be revoked.
● The second component of the program is a 28-day, fully comprehensive addictions program delivered by trained staff and addictions counselors. Each client is assigned a primary counselor who meets regularly with the client throughout the duration of their program.
● The third component is a ‘life skills’ training component of the course. During this period of a client's stay with us, we work one on one with the client to help identify goals: either educational or employment/career based. Appropriate steps are then made to assist and empower our clientele to find long lasting success in their chosen area.
● The fourth component is known as the ‘transitional phase’. During this time, the team at MDC works with its client to find and ascertain suitable independent living. Love Soluble may connect with outside agencies and partner with other local organizations involved with providing sober living houses. Love Soluble also connects with outside organizations who provide government housing, etc.
● The fifth component is an aftercare program. Alumni are invited back to the center on a weekly basis to take part in weekly 12 Step meetings offered at the center. There are also volunteer opportunities and, in some cases, employment opportunities at MDC for graduated clientele.
● Throughout the course of the program Love Soluble takes an incarcerated individual who suffers from life threatening substance use disorder, treats their addiction, ensures their participation in community-based recovery support (12 Step), and helps them learn life skills necessary to maintain life outside of incarceration. We assist clientele in either becoming employed or enrolled in schooling, or in some cases, both. Ideally a client begins education/
employment while remaining in our care, thus giving them the support required to find success. Then, during the final phase of the program, in such time as each clientele displays their readiness, the client then seeks independent living accommodations and is returned to society as a safe, contributing member of that society who then becomes highly likely to find continued success throughout their life and in their recovery.
● Love Soluble connects with a wide variety of community partners, on a case-by-case basis, who help and assist with ongoing care post treatment. Love Soluble continues to engage with past clientele on a regular basis. Love Soluble also fosters strong relationships with the aforementioned community partners to ensure ongoing relationships for future clientele. Love Soluble also acts as advocates and attends court as needed for its clientele. Love Soluble bears unbiased feedback to the courts as to the success each client has achieved in their program. Love Soluble works with each of its clientele to help them to obtain suspended sentencing and probation orders for any outstanding criminal matters. The end goal for all clientele is reform, correction, and freedom.
